Terms of Use
Selectrum is a tool that gives you direct control of your bitcoin. With that control comes responsibility. Please read these terms before you install or use it.
1. Agreement
By downloading, installing or using Selectrum (“the software”) you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the software.
2. What the software is
Selectrum is a non-custodial software wallet for macOS. It creates and stores keys on your computer, signs transactions you ask it to sign, and shows information received from the Bitcoin network and third-party services. We are not a bank, exchange, broker, payment processor or financial adviser. We do not hold, control or have access to your funds, and we cannot reverse a transaction, freeze an account or recover a lost key.
3. Your responsibilities
- Keep your seed phrase and password safe and private. Anyone who has them controls your coins; if you lose them, the coins are gone.
- Keep your computer and operating system secure and up to date.
- Check every address and amount before you sign. Bitcoin transactions are irreversible.
- Follow the laws that apply to you, including those on taxes, sanctions and reporting.
- Use the software only for lawful purposes.
4. Risks you accept
- Bitcoin’s price is volatile and you may lose some or all of its value.
- Software has bugs. This version has known limitations listed on the Security page, including the lack of SPV proofs and non-constant-time signing.
- Data shown by third-party servers and rate providers can be late, wrong or unavailable.
- Network fees can rise, and transactions can take a long time to confirm or be dropped.
- Lightning features are in an early stage; channels can be lost if node data is deleted or damaged.
5. License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the software on computers you own or control, for your own use. You may not sell, sublicense or redistribute the software, or remove notices from it, except as permitted by law or by the licences of its open-source components. The software includes LDK Node and other third-party components that are provided under their own licences (such as MIT and Apache 2.0), which continue to apply to those components.
6. Third-party services
The software connects to Electrum servers, exchange-rate providers, block explorers and Lightning peers that we do not control. Your use of them is subject to their terms and policies. We are not responsible for their availability, accuracy or conduct.
7. No warranty
The software is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the software will be error-free, secure or uninterrupted.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss of funds, loss of profits or data, or for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from the use of or inability to use the software, even if we were told they were possible. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
9. Changes and termination
We may update the software and these terms. The date above shows the latest version; continuing to use the software after a change means you accept it. You may stop using the software at any time; your wallet file and seed phrase remain yours and can be used with other compatible wallets.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the country in which the publisher of Selectrum is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer-protection law of your country provides otherwise.
